A new OO gauge layout from Bingham Model Railway Club This layout was inspired by the exhibition layouts of the late Chris Burch, and is designed to be operated by adults and children alike. Freelance in nature the layout takes the form of a classic shunting puzzle. Operated from the front. The public, especially children, are invited to try shunting, while one of the layout operators has an override in case of problems. Size 8 feet by 2 feet.

Granby lane is a colliery based in the North Derbyshire/South Yorkshire coalfield area and features an operational loading system for the wagons. so an empty train will arrive, refill and depart fully loaded back on mainline, often with the next set of empties waiting to access the pit yard from the mainline. All shunting of wagons within the colliery is undertaken by the NBCs own locos. The mainline also has a frequent procession of trains with local. express, parcels and freight passing by. A loop line has been installed and this allows freight trains to be held while a faster passenger train over- takes it. All these moves are fully signalled. Granby lane itself features ter- raced housing. a pub and a small scrapyard. look for the detail included in this area which includes many cameos such as the dustcart crew emptying the bins and a children’s playground. The pit itself has working winding gear and loading screens as well as other buildings and NCB vehicles. They pre- sent a grimy coaldust covered atmosphere to show how it was in our 1960s representation of the coal mine era. The layout is 16ft x 8ft and requires a footprint of 2oft x 10ft. it has a flame- proof curtain and fully pat tested electrics.

Oscarton station is a four platform terminus served exclusively by DMUs, and has working colour light signals positioned at the platform ends. The track plan comprises two interwoven shuttle lines - one automatic and the other manually controlled.

TORCY (SNCF) Torcy is located in the Department of Seine-Maritime in the Haute Normandie, (Upper Normandy), Region of Northern France at the end of a single track branch off the line from Rouen to Dieppe. Torcy is a real place but the railway is completely fictitious The survival of the imaginary branch line is due, in the main, to a distribution depot set up to transfer goods arriving by rail to road vehicles for delivery to this area of northern France, the level of freight traffic is sufficiently healthy to require several trains a day. In addition, loaded trains of open wagons containing gravel from a quarry up the line, that only has access from the Torcy direction, enter the station area to reverse before departing to Sotteville yard in Rouen for onward dispatch. The station also survives and is served by a regular passenger service from Rouen operated by diesel-powered push-pull trains and multiple units. 

WELBY LANE R.T.C TRACTION AND ROLLING STOCK MAINTENANCE DEPOT PRESENTED BY MARK PEARSON - MEMBER OF SDEG With the continuing development in the 1970s of the Railway Technical Centre at Derby it was decided that minor repairs and servicing could be managed at the site of the Test track without the need for a return to Derby or Toton. Welby Lane lies just off the Old Dalby test track at the Asfordby end, in fact, the spur still exists into the Asfordby Business Park, originally part of the Great Northern Line north and several quarries in the area. The R.T.C decided that the spur provided an excellent area to build a maintenance facility and with the nearby quarry reception sidings gained additional storage space whilst still giving access to the main test track and main line. The scale is OO, using fine-scale and peco code 75 track and points. In fact, the layout was built in two halves and then also an extension was added sometime later! The original shed area is much older and was built as a small test bed for DCC and code 75 track, The newer 'ex reception sidings area' was built some years after with the scrapyard extension being recently built. The overall length is now just over 20 feet in length by 2 feet wide maximum. Control is by Lenz DCC, using an express net to enable more than one operator to use the layout. Slow action point motors are Cobolt, Traintronics, or Fulgrex. Lights and accessories are from various propriety suppliers and sources. All the locomotives are sound-fitted fitted giving an extra dimension, especially to some of the odd classes of diesels that sadly are no longer around, Due to the diversity of the R.T.C constantly experimenting and developing, some items of stock seen on Welby Lane may only be correct for 'that one day in time', and due to the secrecy and lack of photographic evidence of certain prototypes, some items have had to be modeled as such from what we can see/ know. Some of the buildings on the layout are based on actual structures on the Mickleover and Old Dalby test tracks - even down to the guard dog compound at Mickleover. The office block and A.P.T testing house are inspired by the structures at Old Dalby,and have been either scratch built or by modifying kits to suit.
